PlayThisRiff member CJ was kind enough to give us some insight as to what his current rig is. Describing his gear, CJ writes: "The guitar on the left is a Dean MAB3 Michael Angelo Batio Signature
Model, nicknamed "Erena" after Erena Ono of AKB48. Love the feel of
the neck on it; it's become my main guitar, and my technique seems to
have improved by leaps and bounds since I got it, something I got to
tell Michael Angelo Batio himself recently at an instore appearance he
did. On the right is an Epiphone Les Paul Standard nicknamed "Reina"
after Reina Tanaka from Morning Musume. Since she has a fixed bridge,
I usually turn to her for tunings outside of concert pitch. The
amplifier is a Line 6 Micro Spider, which makes a hell of a racket
even though it's only a 6-watt amp. Strings are usually Ernie Ball
Super Slinkys, or in a pinch any brand that starts with a .09 high E.
I've been a bit of a slut most of my playing life when it comes to
picks; I currently use Dunlop Jazz III black stiffys, which are great
for everything except Johnny Ramone barre chords, so I'm on a search
for Dunlop's MaxGrip version of the Jazz IIIs Not pictured in this photo are a Fender acoustic-electric mandolin,
which is more of an indie-rock affectation (thanks to Peter Buck of
R.E.M. and Bret Alexander of the Badlees) than a country one for me
and that I hadn't bought over to my apartment from my parents' house
yet at the time, a 1979 Fender Stratocaster (non-tremelo model) which
is going to get refretted soon, a Fender acoustic guitar that I
"liberated" from my father several years ago, and a Crybaby Wah that I
had bought used off of eBay and arrived with the "Dimebag"
modification (skateboard tape instead of the default rubber pad)." Thanks so much CJ. Submit your gear by e-mailing PlayThisRiff@gmail.com!
