Mike Watt is the founder of The Minutemen and fIREHOSE. In 2003, he joined Detroit punk legends The Stooges.

When he was young he moved to San Pedro, California. It was there that he met guitar player D.Boon. By the mid-1970s, Watt and Boon formed a band called The Reactionaries, which would later become The Minutemen. The Minutemen toured constantly, releasing albums along the way. Their music featured the aggressiveness of punk, but it also included elements of folk, funk and jazz.

In 1984, Watt became romantically involved with Black Flag bassist Kira Roessler. As a result, they formed a bass duo named Dos. Dos has released three albums. In 1985, The Minutemen came to a tragic end. D. Boon was killed in an automobile accident. Their album "3 Way Tie For Last," was already scheduled for release.

Since the days of The Minutemen, Watt has released tons of solo albums and worked with such artists as Dave Grohl, Henry Rollins, Kelly Clarkson, Eddie Vedder, J Mascis, and Frank Black. He has also worked with members of Sonic Youth, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soul Asylum, Jane's Addiction, The Beastie Boys, and The Screaming Trees.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers dedicated their album Blood Sugar Sex Magik (1991) to him. On November 1 2008, Watt received the Bass Player Magazine lifetime achievement award, presented by Flea. Learn from one of the most respected bass players in the music business.
